Marjorie Heins

Marjorie Heins was the founding director of the Arts Censorship Project of the American Civil Liberties Union from 1991 to 1998. She was co-counsel in Reno v. American Civil Liberties Union (the successful challenge to the 1996 Communications Decency Act) and Finley v. National Endowment for the Arts (a major case resulting from Congress’s attempts to impose “decency” standards on federal arts grants). She was a 1998–2000 Open Society Institute Fellow and she lives in New York City.
