Muhammad Memon

Muhammad Umar Memon is professor emeritus of Urdu Language and Literature and Islamic Studies at University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has translated Urdu fiction into English and also many Western novels and stories, essays on Islamic philosophy and Sufi metaphysics into Urdu. He edited and translated a special issue of the literary magazine Words Without Borders on Urdu Fiction from India which appeared in September 2010. His published works include several volumes of Urdu short stories translated into English, of which Do You Suppose It’s the East Wind? (Penguin) is the latest. In 2013, Penguin published his translation of the third volume of Naiyer Masud stories under the title The Occult.
