Sassafras Lowrey
Sassafras Lowrey is a teenage runaway who grew up to become the 2013 winner of the Lambda Literary Emerging Writer Award. She is the editor of Kicked Out, an anthology of personal narratives from homeless and formerly homeless LGBT youth. Sassafras has taught and lectured on LGBTQ youth homelessness and queer storytelling/creative writing at colleges and conferences across the country. Sassafras’ writing has also been included in national reports from the Center For American Progress, True Colors Fund, National LGBT Task Force, The Polaris Project among others on best practices for working with LGBTQ youth homeless youth.
