As a nonprofit public-interest book publisher, our mission is to champion voices that impact social justice and expand democratic discourse. Many commercial publishers avoid publishing books and authors that don’t have large, built-in markets. Yet it’s our mission at The New Press to present and circulate diverse cultural perspectives regardless of the potential for financial returns. Book sales only cover some 70% of what we need to operate, and without philanthropic support, we cannot elevate unheard voices or expand who participates in national conversations.
