The New Press Remembers Andrew Hacker

The New Press is deeply saddened to note the passing of Andrew Hacker, a scholar of political science, public intellectual, and the author of more than a dozen books.

Hacker was known for challenging received ideas, his insightful use of statistics, and his provocative writing. The New Press is proud to have published Hacker’s The Math Myth: And Other STEM Delusions, grew out of his influential New York Times op-ed “Is Algebra Necessary.” The book examined mathematics education in America to make the case of eliminating higher math from mandatory school curriculum.
